:: Buying my first car

6 years later, august 24th 1998. I passed my drivers' license practical exam. My theoretical went in one go, scoring only one minor mistake. Almost perfect. I could have taken the practical exam earlier, in July, but I wasn't sure if I'd pass my last year in school (RITS) since the year before were always second tries, burying myself into the books during summer. But things went smoothly, even receiving a degree. So I went to subscribe for practical exams and I was to come around the 24th of august. Only slightly nervous, and again, past the tests without problems.

My parents were on holiday. I started working at ISS on September the first. One moth later, I got a contract and my parents came with the idea to get myself a small car. They already had on in mind: the Fiat Seicento. I went through the folders, and I liked it alot. At least, the Sporting version. The Suite crossed my mind too, but with the airco it was 50kg heavier, thus reducing the performance. I went for the Sporting. Very nice car. Small, but sporty. I got a CD player as a present I got from my parents and I had real fun driving the car around. My girlfriend also liked it a lot.

This Seicento was rather rare, though very cheap actually. 7.809 Euro. But enjoyable, nice engine. My girlfriend never drove it on the road, 'cause she hasn't got her driver's license yet.

The only thing was, this car is all in all small. Small seats, small handbrake, small steering wheel,... but as I said, great to drive.

June last year, we went to the Fiat garage with the Seicento, because I wanted my girlfriend to take a look at a car I fell for: the Coup. It was there in Dark Metallic Red, and we drove past the showroom, slowly, to stop. We looked at it, drove backwards a bit. That's when I had the most heavy collision I ever had with this car: I hit the pavement with the rear right wheel. Just slightly hit it actually. Minor damage to the wheel, but actually hard to see. I never had something wrong with the Seicento, not even a scratch. Just that one.

Later, we've entered the showroom and I said the dealer maybe just maybe in a year and a half (when the first term of the financing of the Seicento finished) I'd get myself this 1.8 16v Coupé.
