:: '00 - Y2K VERSIONS, FINAL CHAPTER

2000, and Fiat decided to cease production. The end of manufacturing, the start of a classic. After almost 7 years, the last Coupe's are being constructed by hand, as always, in the Pininfarina factory. Personally I didn't hear about it until right after I bought my 462 sprint blue Turbo Plus.

But what you see above is the 2000 Special Edition. Unfortunately, Fiat didn't invest any additional effort in something that beats all the rest in terms of performance, but with the 1.8 16v as a basis, it offered an edition that was both affordable and elegant. New wheels, grey coloured items like the headlamp mountings, front grille, dashboard console,... and a special light blue colour was added to the sample page.

Throughout the range, the Coupe received new seats, now including sidebags. And the Turbo 20v got the plus' wheels. Later 2000, the Recaro's were no longer available for the Plus.

So it actually was a year where Fiat somehow wanted to get use up all of the Coupe parts lying around.

It's a truely sad parting. This top versions being real dreamcars, the base versions really great compromises between, comfort, sportiness and cost. It's up for the classic course now, and we'll see prices drop fast, then coming up again to a very decent level.

I hope once Fiat will come up with a worthwile replacement, with style, character and a price that's as reasonable as it was now. We'll see what the future will bring. Fingers crossed and congratulations to all the people who own a Fiat Coupe. It's an amazing car!
